Women’s health physiotherapy involves the assessment and treatment of women with pelvic floor, bladder and bowel issues. Pelvic floor function is assessed with a range of tools, including real time ultrasound, allowing an exercise program to be tailored to a patient’s individual needs and specific goals.

Physiotherapy is part of WOMEN Centre’s multidisciplinary treatment approach that aims to achieve the best possible outcome for patients.

The focus areas of physiotherapy include:

  • Pre and post-operation education
  • Incontinence (bladder and bowel)
  • Bladder problems – urgency, frequency, voiding changes
  • Constipation
  • Pelvic organ prolapse
  • Painful sexual intercourse
  • Pelvic pain
  • Pregnancy and post-natal back and neck pain

A physiotherapy group consultation will last 30 to 60 minutes and include:

  • Initial assessment to determine patient’s current issues, concerns and pelvic floor function.
  • Discussion of patient’s exercise goals and strategies to achieve these goals.
  • Education on patient’s condition and assessment findings, including the current best practice.
  • Individualized strategies to manage current condition including pelvic floor exercises and lifestyle modification and advice.
  • On-going assessment to monitor and progress as improvements occur.
  • Written reports back to surgeon, specialist doctor and other health professionals detailing assessment findings and management plans.

The benefits of a physiotherapy consultation at WOMEN Centre include:

  • Specialized assessment and treatment of conditions specific to women.
  • Individualised and supervised treatment programs with a range of treatment options including pelvic floor exercises and lifestyle modifications.
  • Management in a private and supportive environment.
  • Holistic approach to conditions with the additional support of specialist health and medical professionals.
